Ma’asei YadeinuWorks of our Hands

Ma'asei Yadeinu is an individualized learning program for children in Kindergarten and older at Congregation Beth Sholom. Teachers in the program work at local Jewish Day Schools and bring a love of Judaism to the children and families involved. Topics include: Hebrew fluency, Jewish holidays, Torah, and more.   For more information please contact the synagogue office at office@cbsteaneck.org.

Lunch & Leyn

From late winter through the spring, children in fifth grade meet to learn basic Torah reading skills before heading off to a different home to share lunch and hang out together. Over 10-12 weeks, the children, their families, and members of the Beth Sholom community come together for a joyous siyyum, during which each child reads Torah and receives a tikkun to use for Bar/Bat Mitzvah preparation.

Lunch & Leyn, conceived by congregant Adina Avery-Grossman and taught by Adina and Cantor Ronit Wolff Hanan, is a wonderful combination of education, peer bonding, and fun!

Bar/Bat Mitzvah Preparation

Celebrating a Bar or Bat Mitzvah at Congregation Beth Sholom is a joyous occasion as much for the community as it is for the individual family. We provide several resources to help families organize and enjoy the day to the utmost. Over the course of five sessions, Rabbi Pitkowsky helps students prepare, explore the parashah and work with each to write a d'var Torah.

As part of the planning process, we ask all families looking to schedule a Bar/Bat Mitzvah to make an appointment with our synagogue administrator, Abby Rosen Finkel, as soon as possible to better understand our community’s requirements, logistics, and kiddush options. Every simcha is different, as is every child, and we welcome any questions regarding specific needs. We look forward to working with you on this amazing moment in your family's life.
