Adult Learning
Ongoing, robust engagement with Jewish tradition, ideas, history, and culture is a central tenet of the Beth Sholom community. We offer a regular schedule of weekly classes and Torah study sessions, complemented by Shabbat Lunch and Learn events, which attract Jewish thinkers from a broad range of fields.
Highlights of the year include:
- Annual Shabbaton, in which our members become our teachers for a Shabbat of retreat, study, and community
- The Rabbi Barry Schaeffer Scholar-in-Residence program, a series of lectures over Shabbat featuring a leading Jewish intellectual
- Annual lecture series including the Alfred and Rose Buchman Memorial Fine Arts Lecture, the Ilana Sasson Memorial Lecture, and the M&M Holocaust Program
- Book clubs and discussions - We have many book clubs including Hug Ivri (which reads Israeli novels in Hebrew); the Sisterhood Book Club, and a new Israeli Book discussion which reads Israeli books in translation. We also participate in the One Book, One Community program
- Each spring Congregations Beth Sholom and Rinat Yisrael come together for an Annual Community Beit Midrash where members learn together in havrutah and a shiur is given by the congregations' rabbis. This event rotates between taking place at Beth Sholom and Rinat Yisrael.
