One Book, One Community

We are excited that you will be part of the One Book, One Community initiative, presented by the Synagogue Leadership Initiative of the Jewish Federation of Northern New Jersey. Congregation Beth Sholom is proud to be a partner in this innovative project.

Synagogues, agencies, and other Jewish communal organizations will join together in shared conversations and events centered around one selected book and its themes, My Father’s Paradise, by award-winning journalist, Ariel Sabar. The book tells the story of his father, Yona, who emigrated with his family from the Kurdish region of Iraq in the late 1940s. It weaves together the story of the Sabar family’s journey, recapturing their history in the waning years of Jewish life in the Kurdish region of northern Iraq.

You can reserve one or more copies of the book by completing this form or by stopping in the synagogue office. Each book is $8, payable to Congregation Beth Sholom; books can be picked up in the synagogue office.

Stay tuned for information about programs connected to the book that will be offered around the Northern New Jersey Jewish community. For more information, e-mail office@cbsteaneck.org.
